From now on, I intend to write more reviews of the supplements I take or took, mostly for endometriosis. Today I want to tell you more about Omega-3 Triple Strength, an Omega-3 fatty acids natural supplement that I take from Solgar. It is indeed of high quality so I want to leave you here more info about benefits, list of ingredients, studies on Omega-3 and endometriosis, contraindications, smell, taste etc.
Please keep in mind that, as I repeated myself over the article, I am not a doctor, but an editor and a patient who wants to spread knowledge regarding what I’ve read and took.

Before taking any supplement, go to your doctor (family physician, nutritionist etc.) and ask for him advice. Of course, you can back up your questions with sources, studies and information from this article too.
As a matter of fact, this is its main purpose.
Omega-3 fatty acids – benefits
- lowers high blood pressure
- reduce bad cholesterol and triglycerides level.
- provide a better functioning of cardiovascular system.
- it might relieve depression, anxiety. Some studies say that Omega-3 fatty acids could slow down the cognitive decline and could also prevent Alzheimer disease.
- reduce inflammation and period pains.
- improve eyesight.
- reduce asthma symptoms in children
And the list could go on. If you want to read more about it or details about the conditions mentioned above, here you have a useful link on this.
When did I discover Omega-3 Triple Strength from Solgar and for what I used it (and still use it)?
In 2014 I went through my first endometriosis surgery and I remember that, afterwards, my doctor told me endometriosis is a mysterious disease and he cannot guarantee me anything. Neither if I take birth control, nor if I don’t take them, neither if I choose complementary treatment methods, nor if I choose not to take anything.
So I went home and entered that website with only scientific studies, Pubmed.com. You wouldn’t believe it but even back there, in 2014, I found a lot of studies on Omega-3 and endometriosis.
That's how I first read about Omega-3 fatty acids. I wrote more about the studies I’ve found here, but I want to add that even this year, another research was published which stated that women with a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids have a 22% lower risk of developing endometriosis comparing to women with a diet rich in trans fats who had a 48% higher risk of confronting endometriosis.
Yes, it is true that all these are just studies, their conclusions are not statements and not 100% scientific proven, but still they are a starting point.
Many doctors and even patients think these studies are not trustworthy, but I do not agree we should ban such studies. Yes, I admit that future studies must be made in order to sustain and certify some conclusions, but still, in a disease where so little it is known, EVERY RESEARCH IS IMPORTANT!
Therefore, I read more about Omega-3 in 2014, and after several months, I started taking this particular brand: Omega-3 Triple Strength from Solgar Brand.
I remember I had some pelvic and ovary pains, I read in some studies that we need 2000 mg of Omega-3 a day and I started looking a more potent Omega-3. That's how I reached this particular brand and supplement.
I started taking it and my pains went away very quickly which never happened before with other Omega 3 brand. I continued taking it, with some breaks in between, but whenever I want a supplement with Omega-3, for me or for my mother who has cardiovascular problem, I always choose Omega-3 Triple Strength from Solgar.
Omega-3 fatty acids - contraindications
The best would be to go to your family doctor or to another doctor you know and share your medical history and then to see what it's his advice regarding taking Omega-3 supplements. A doctor should know to tell you this, although this is not an allopathic substance.
From what I've read, high doses of Omega-3 could increase the risk of bleeding; might increase the risk of stroke in certain circumstances (although some other studies showed protective effect on this) and some other studies I've found at some point mentioned something about the risk of prostate cancer - but again, here too, some other research seem to disaprove the first study.
It must not be taken if you also take blood thinners pills. Here’s a list of contraindications, but please talk about them with your doctor too.
Of course, if you are allergic to fish, seafood – as this particular type of Omega-3 (what is from fish oil) – this supplement is not for you.
I repeat, I'm not a doctor, so start taking Omega 3 only under certified supervision.
What Omega-3 Triple Strength from Solgar contains?
I will leave here some data from the product.
Two soft gels contain "Cold Water Fish Oil Concentrate - 2800 mg: EPA – Eicosapentaenoic Acid - 1008 mg and DHA -Docosahexaenoic Acid - 756 mg.
Fish oil, gelatin, vegetable glycerin, natural mixed tocopherols Contains fish (anchovy, herring, mackerel, sardine).
Free of: Gluten, wheat, dairy, yeast, sugar, sodium, artificial flavor, sweetener, preservatives and color.
What smell and taste do these pills have?
Some natural supplements with Omega-3 fish oil can have a weird and strong smell and taste. This is not the case for Omega-3 Triple Strength. They have a slightly fish smell, but almost imperceptible, you can swallow them easily although I use to drink the content as I like the taste of the fish oil - which does not taste as fish.
Besides, I didn't have any reactions from this supplement with Omega-3, although I take it sometimes even during periods.
For what I've been taking it and what benefits did I have?
As I told you before, I first took it for pain and then I continued taking it for endometriosis too.
Besides the pain factor, I really believe Omega-3 Triple Strength helped me in not having an endometriosis relapse on the bowel again (I had bowel endometriosis, operated so I suppose things are better now, or at least that’s the ultrasound shows). Yet, I have to admit that besides Omega-3 I kept the diet and took some other supplements too.
In that article with the studies made on Omega-3 and endometriosis there is a research that says Omega-3 could inhibit adhesions formations so now I am taking it for this. Hope it will work.

Where you can find Omega-3 Triple Strength
On your local drugstores (I find it in pharmacies here, in Romania), but also on website like Iherb.com or Amazon. I ordered it few times from Iherb.com, the prize was much better than the prize from Romania.
Conclusion
I am certain that Omega-3 fatty acids in general and this particular Solgar brand are very helpful especially for endometriosis patients. I am certain that, from what I've tried, this is the best one, at least from an endometriosis patient point of view who has tried a lot. Please be careful with Omega-3 from flaxseeds as these can be harmful for us (they are fit oestrogenic and these, in many patients can raise estrogen, not detoxifying it – but this is another topic).

If you decide you should take Omega-3 fatty acids from Solgar I would say to follow the recommendations of your doctor, to talk to him about your medical history, any medication you take and, if he allows you to take Omega-3 then start slowly and only after a while go up to 2000 mg a day.
