There are two ways in which you can prepare this delicious, quick and healthy dessert: either you buy a dark chocolate with no milk, soy or sugar added, or you make your own homemade chocolate cream.
It might be difficult to find such healthy chocolate bar, but research a lot online, at those bio stores that ship in your town or ask on a local bio store. There are a lot of chocolate brands that contain only cocoa powder, coconut oil, cocoa butter, vanilla or other healthy ingredients.
If you don’t find such chocolate or just want to make this dessert from scratch, you will find below our homemade chocolate cream you can use at this recipe, but not only.
What ingredients do you need to do the best chocolate banana dessert?
1 (raw vegan) dark chocolate
1 teaspoon of honey
2-3 teaspoons of cocoa powder / carob powder
½ small cup of ground or chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon of honey
1 tablespoon of coconut/almond milk (if necessary)
1. Put some chocolate pieces in a small pot and leave it on the heat till the chocolate is melted. Then, take off the heat, add ½ - 1 teaspoon of honey and mix it well.
2. Slice the banana, put the slices on a plate and pour over the melted chocolate sauce.
If you don’t have a chocolate to melt, mix in a plate 2-3 teaspoons of cocoa powder or carob powder and ½ teaspoon of honey. Put them all in a small pot, on heat, mix it and, if necessary, add coconut/almond milk. The composition does not have to be too runny so add cocoa powder to make it a little bit thicker. Leave it for 2-3 minutes, take off the heat, sprinkle a 1 tablespoon of ground walnuts and serve with banana.
Cocoa powder or carob powder – which one is the best for this chocolate banana recipe?
The answer depends on your needs or preferences. There are people who cannot tolerate cocoa so the carob powder is the perfect alternative. Cocoa and carob are both healthy and rich in nutrients, although studies show that the cocoa powder could earn the first place in this respect.
Cocoa powder and carob powder are low in calories (1 teaspoon – 14 calories), high in fibre and antioxidants, especially polyphenols and flavonoids, that improve heart function and reduce the oxidative stress. Yet, cocoa powder is richer in iron, cooper, magnesium and phosphorus. On the other hand, carob has a lot of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, vitamin B, potassium and calcium.
Therefore, choosing one over the other might be only a matter of food (in)tolerance or preference.
